What is Minecraft Tournament?
The limit of 32 competitors has been reached. You may still register as a replacement player in case a registered player drops out. Please come to Learning Rocks and enjoy the event and there may be spots opening up at the event. Thank you for your interest! Guaranteed participants will be contacted with additional information prior to the event.
For the tournament, the game Minecraft will be played on an Xbox360 system with up to (8) players playing at the same time. Competition rounds will consist of being provided a building challenge. Competitors will be awarded points based on their performance toward completion of the task. Each round is time limited as competitors will have SIX minutes to build so please be prepared to play Minecraft on an Xbox system.
Kindergarten through 8th grades will compete by grade groups in multiple rounds of the Minecraft tournament. Everyone will play a minimum of two rounds. The competition is limited to a maximum of 16 competitors per grade group and the overall winner for each age group will be crowned a Minecraft Champion!
Grade groups and competition start times are as follows:
- 11 AM - Kindergarten - 3rd Grade
- 12 PM - 4th - 8th Grades
Note: Competitors may “play up” in the next highest Grade Group if there is no space available in your group. Competitors may not “play down” for any reason.
Who Can Compete?
Any Kindergarten - 8th grade student from any public, private and charter school or home-schooled in Central Ohio.
How does the Competition Work?
After the competitor registers for the tournament, they will be sent the build challenges for the first two rounds so that they can prepare prior to the event. For all rounds competitors will have SIX minutes to build.
For rounds one and two, up to eight competitors will play at the same time with each build receiving a score from 0 – 100. All players are guaranteed to play two rounds.
After the 2nd round, the top 8 scorers will move into the semi-final round. Competitors will be given a new build challenge to complete in SIX minutes. The top 4 scores in the semi move to the finals. In the finals, the competitors will receive one last new build challenge & will receive one last score.
Each grade group competition is scheduled for one hour. In order to keep the competitions on schedule, adjustments may be made to the number of rounds and/or the length of rounds in order to maintain the time schedule.
How is the Minecraft Champion Decided?
The winner of each grade group will be:
- The winner of the grade group is the person with the highest total combined score of the semi and final rounds.
- If there is a tie, the winner will be determined by the highest score in the final round.
- If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by a coin flip.
What Do the Minecraft Champions Receive?
Within each group, prizes will be awarded to:
1st Place: 1st Place Trophy
2nd Place: 2nd Place Medal
OTHER RULES & STIPULATIONS
- The grading of the builds is subjective. The opinions and grading of the judges is final.
- The competitors will be kept away from the game play area when they are not playing. If they are not at the game play area when they are called to play they will lose their spot in the competition.
- No crowd participation will be allowed. If answers are provided to a student from a member of the audience, that student will be disqualified.
- All rules are subject to modification or to be changed without notice.
