1^st through 12^th grades will compete by grade in multiple rounds of spelling words.  The completion is limited to 40 competitors per grade and the overall winner will be crowned the Spelling Challenge Champion!

Who Can Compete?
Any 1st-12th grade student from any public, private and charter school or home-schooled in Central Ohio.

How does the Competition Work?
Students will compete in 1-2 preliminary rounds, and then move to immediate word elimination rounds.  Students compete by grade through multiple rounds of spelling words.

• Round 1 - Students will be divided into groups of 3-4.  Those 3-4 students will each be give a mini white board.  The students will be simultaneously provided the same word that they need to spell on the mini whiteboard.  For each word spelled correctly by the student they will receive 1 point.  Students will be provided up to 20 seconds to spell the word correctly.  Any student getting 2 words or less correct will be eliminated from the competition.

• Round 2 - Students will be randomly regrouped into groups of 3-4 students.  This is a timed round.  Students will be provided 3 words at the same time.  The group will be provided 30 seconds to spell all 3 words correctly.  The student to spell all 3 word correctly first will advance to the 3^rd round (the remaining students will be eliminated).  If no student spells all 3 words correctly, then the student with the most words spelled correctly will advance to the next round.  In the case of a tie, those students involved it the tie will be given a single word elimination with the winner being the person who can spell the word the fastest.

• Rounds 3 - The remaining students will compete in a final round.  The group will be provided 1 word to spell.  The student that spells the word the slowest will be eliminated.  Also, if the word is spelled incorrectly the student is also eliminated.  Additional rounds will continue with a minimum of 1 student being eliminated each word until there is 1 winner crowned the spelling bee champion.  If no one can spell the word correctly in a specific round, a new word will be presented and no one is eliminated from the round.  In the case of a tie for 2^nd or 3^rd place, a one word elimination round will occur at the Kumon booth to determine a winner.

What Do the Spelling Challenge Champions Receive?
Within each grade, prizes will be awarded to:

1st Place: Trophy & 1 free month of Kumon
2nd Place: Medal & 1 free month of Kumon
3rd Place: Medal & 50% off 1st month of Kumon

OTHER RULES & STIPULATIONS

• No crowd participation will be allowed.  If answers are provided to a student from a member of the audience, that student will be disqualified.
• Your submission will be accepted based in the order / time that you submit your registration.
• All rules are subject to modification or to be changed without notice.
